Fixed points and derangements
Peter J. Cameron
Queen Mary and Westfield
The talk will contain a tapas of recent results about fixed
points and derangements in permutation groups. For example:
- a structure theorem for permutation groups in which every non-identity
element fixes exactly k points;
- recent work of Michael Giudici on groups containing no fixed-point-free
element of prime order;
- generalisation of derangement numbers to groups other than symmetric
groups.
